QA software testing best ways to learn explained
Nice!!! Thank you!
Been researching Bootcamps to get into Manual QA and Automated QA , super new to this industry and very excited to start but does anyone know any bootcamps that are legit? or what's the best course of action to begin ?
I’ll leave it open for people who have actually attended various bootcamps and can give first hand experience but my advice is the following 1. Try to find one with manual and automation. Automation is in higher demand and has a higher ceiling for pay because it is more challenging 2. Don’t rush or feel pressured into any purchase or commitment and read all documentation. Some make wild claims, but then you have to read the fine print for the full details. For example people have mentioned bootcamps that had money back guaranteed, but then they missed a class or hw and couldn’t be qualified for it anymore. 3. Take reviews online with a grain of salt, usually a bad review can be 1 person who had a bad experience and is an outlier and a good review can easily be made up 4. Try to ask if they have any career placement help and what is it 5. If they have an internship make sure it’s at least a month so you can get something out of it. It takes a few weeks to just get used to a new company so seeing someone with an internship with less time than that I think it’s a fake internship Hope this helped and goodluck!
Thank you. Its easy to feel lost when preparing on your own. This kind of video shines light on the path to getting a QA job.
Glad it can help, please keep me posted on your journey!
Turn it up to 1.50x
225 / 5.000 Watching this video from Argentina and I realize that a bad salary is between 50 to 60 thousand dollars per year. A Qa Manual tester Jr in Argentina is between 600 and 1000 dollars per month, even some knowing how to speak English
How about acting like you’re an employer and you’re giving me a job as a manual tester QA tester can you take me step-by-step on the job doing the job in a professional way not just explaining to me what something means which does nothing for me. I need to see it on the job, this is the problem I see at careerist. I see no, on the job training even when you say it’s on the job it’s always incomplete. Please help me
This was just an introduction to different types of testers. I recently made a video about what you can expect to do in a regular day as a manual software tester and walked through what everything is. That video may be of help to you
Wish you would’ve shown an example of what a regression tester was actually doing on the job. Step-by-step.
Usually in today’s jobs, regression tester would be a sub role of a regular manual tester
Hi I want to restart my career after 12 years.I will learn QA and search job. Can I have entry level QA resume
Hey there! Just DM'd you on Instagram. Your UA-cam content is fantastic!
Wouldn't we need some sort of requirements or specifications beforehand in order to know what to test on the pen?
In the real world yes, you usually want to plan to test things without requirements so you know your scope. In interviews they care more about your thought process so they will leave the scope up to you. This helps them see if you can think outside of the box or are a robot that needs to be spoon-fed everything to do and think about
you're a life saver. I have an interview for a graduate QA role in a week and I need to be prepared. This breaks everything down into easy steps.
Glad that I can help, let me know how it goes!
what's the difference between python QA automation and Java QA automation ? do they use different frameworks or tools ?
High level it’s all the same concepts with UI testing and API testing. It mainly comes down to the differences in the language syntax.
Best way to get a qa tester job. Network, network, network. Meetups are key. You can skip 1,000s of other applicants by just showing up at tech meetups. Thank me later.
Underrated comment! Networking can get you exposure to opportunities and expedite your process greatly. When I was in undergrad many people had jobs already lined up because of their family connections. Network every chance you get in life
Hey, I just sent you a message on Instagram. Looking forward to your response. Thanks!
You do a great job of making NERD the new COOL! 😃
Haha thanks for the support!
How do you end up saying "Kataline" from reading "katalon"?
lol How do you end up with this as your takeaway from the video 🤦🏽♂️
I appreciate your hard work bro
Thanks for the support!
I am starting with careerist next week (hopefully), it's good to see some things I'm getting myself into

im still getting gup tha money but i can't wait to make this career change

Sounds like a pretty full day. I thought I could work 3-4 manual testing jobs at the same time 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 that only works when it’s 3-4 jobs that each pay $200k+ with a max 1 hour a day of actual work! (For those of you who are new to the field and reading this we are joking lol).
@@thetestlead yes everyone! we ar just joking.
Hi! This is a really motivational video! You are doing a great job! Our QA team is also sharing their experience in our latest video. They discussed their software testing trends for 2024
Thanks for the support!
Starting my first QA role in June. It’s more so healthcare IT, are you aware of any differences that there may be when dealing with the healthcare IT QA side vs QA in the standard Tech industry?
Congrats on the new position! High level it should be the same concepts, writing test documentation, executing tests, creating bug reports, and going to meetings. The difference may be the what you are testing (tech apps vs healthcare apps) and the company culture. Hope this helped!
I used to work for a pharma company as QA. It depends on what you are doing as QA. IT covers a wide range of things. I was working on validating our software purchased from vendors was configured correctly. If you share what kind of healthcare company it is, I can offer some insight on what to expect.
Thank you for sharing this! Could you create a video on how to create and manage a large test case suite with lots of user stories, how to properly categorize and trace test cases so they could be easily automated later on?
Hey thanks for reaching out, I will add this to my video queue!
@@thetestlead omg can’t wait! Thank you!
I just start my first course as a software tester 🥺 wish me luck 🍀
Good luck, let me know how it goes!
@@thetestlead thank you ! I will 🎉
Hey I have some questions if anyone could answer it would be appriciated: Does QA jobs take a lot of skill, is it easy or hard to learn? How does the salary look like? Is this job market over saturated or it will be easy to get into, in 2024/2025. Can you work from home? Is it flexible to work from anywhere, and do you spend a long time of you day doing it? Or can I have a lot of free time? Thank you so much!
Free for other people to add to the answer I think manual QA is the easiest skillset to learn to get into tech. Automation where code is involved is where it starts to get harder. Salaries would depend on your location. You can check places like Glassdoor and put in your location and get a good estimate l. Many jobs have hybrid or complete work from home positions. In the beginning you will honestly spend a lot of time doing it because you are new. But eventually as your experience grows you should become more efficient. Hope this helped!
I’ve heard that companies are not hiring manual testers and manual testing is something I’m very interested in doing. Do you think that’s true?
Companies are still hiring, but because the market is getting more saturated the requirements requested from jobs has increased for some companies.
Can you please break down the differences between regression and sanity testing? Their meaning/purpose to me are the same. Thank you!
Sure, sanity tests can be seen as narrow regression tests. It covers key features and is fewer in number. Often used after small code changes in a specific area. Regression testing is testing to make sure all the old functionality still works. Normally done after a large code change and make sure it didn’t break other things indirectly. Hope this helps!
@@thetestlead thank you!
interview tomorrow :)
mine tomorrow 😭that it the tomorrow after your tomorrow

why does this sound like an AI?
I too question if I’m AI or not on a daily basis at this point🤷🏽♂️
thanks for the video. I need a mentor. I need a roadmap from manual tester with no programming knowledge to tester with test automation skills.
You can email me about the mentor part. Also you can use this video as a reference on what to learn. Write down what I mention in it as far as topics and try to learn them ua-cam.com/video/_UYXSQien2Y/v-deo.htmlsi=M4P545AmdRALnQ_W
I did a QA automation bootcamp back in August of last year. I had zero programming experience and knew next to nothing about software testing. I knew some html and css through freecodecamp. During the bootcamp they taught us core Java, sql, selenium, cucumber, postman, testNG, and how to write test cases. We literally spent about 2 hours learning about test cases. That was it lol this bootcamp was 9 weeks. At the end of it all I felt like I learned a lot, but somehow I felt like I learned nothing. Since then, I’ve had to go back and learn the fundamentals of testing. They did not teach anything about software qa, we spent most of the time learning Java and learning automation tools, but there was very little explanation about how all of these tools work together or how the testing process works. We didn’t learn anything about test management tools either. They made it seem like with the stuff they taught us that would be enough to land a job 🤡 It could not be further from the truth. The market is so competitive and what I’m finding is that the above skillset is not sufficient for employers. They want *more*. Breaking into QA is hard 😢
Hey sorry for your bad experience! They definitely did it a little backwards. You should start with the fundamentals and WHY you are doing something or using a certain tool and testing for a user or customer’s point of view. Once you have the fundamentals of QA software testing, then you take that next step and learn about efficiency with automation and how that helps reduce time of regular manual software testing. Did you have other classmates in your Bootcamp? If so what are they up to? Also you definitely can break in to the field even as it is getting more competitive. Realistically your first job may not be ideal, it’s about just getting your foot in the door. Then once you have real experience it’s easier to leverage that to a more ideal job
@@thetestlead the bootcamp was designed to help us break into an automation role, but what do you think? Is it possible to land a test automation role as your first job? Or would you recommend starting with a manual role? It started with 10 students, by the end it was just 3 of us. One of them had 10 years experience with manual testing, and the other had 7 years experience in JS and apparently had experience as an SDET (which was weird because his programming skills were suspect). One of them landed a manual testing job, and the other apparently still hasn’t found anything. I came into this from a totally different industry: door dash!!! So yeah lol I can automate pretty well using selenium and java, I can write the test scripts within a cucumber framework, I understand how to design the code following page object model principles, I’ve got some API testing skills as well. But like I said, they never really explained to us how all these tools worked together. It felt like they were just teaching us how to do stuff but not really preparing us for a test job per se. I’m watching videos on manual testing, Jira, git, CI/CD, etc. It becomes overwhelming because sometimes I’m unsure if I’m learning the right things. I’ve thought about getting certified in AWS and maybe trying to get a docker certification as well. And build some projects. I know it’s gonna be extra hard for me, especially since I’m coming from a completely different background. Any advice? Also, I love your content man! Super informative and inspirational.
I been in IT support/cyber security for a while I want to move over to QA.
Now is a better time than ever. Your background should definitely help you and you can probably use that to leverage you getting a job faster.
Recruiter just called me and I didn’t answer, waiting for a response whether I quality for a technical interview or not
Keep me posted on your journey
I want that
Just make sure you do your full research and stay safe! You can use the websites and subreddit mentioned in the video, but make sure you weigh the pros and cons
@@thetestlead got it thanks, can we give other testing support and earn money, other than ftj.can you make vedio regarding those sites?
@@thetestlead they know not what they ask. All that money they make is going to go to legal fees and health care expenses
@The Test Lead - why did you make a video breaking so my hearts and myths of tech? Every says you "get to the bag" working for 5 companies at the same time. You are so mean 😅😅😅 Great honest content as always!
Haha, because I’m tired of getting emails and messages from people who aren’t even in the field yet talking about wanting to make millions because they saw it on an add or TikTok that’s said it’s EASY to work multiple full time jobs🤦🏽♂️
Thank you for clear and honest explanation
Thanks for the support!
Is there a book on this? I’m thinking a book could help me get started with some understanding. Then I will try to find volunteer opportunities to build experience. Suggestions please. Thanks.
Unfortunately I don’t think there are many books and if so they may be outdated. If anyone else who sees this comment knows of any please let us know. I planned on releasing a book later this year, maybe this can be a part of it!
@@thetestlead Thanks. I’m not sure if this is worth pursuing. I see so little about it. Is this not a desirable thing to do? Tech is a tough place to be lately, at 55 I’m not sure even with 22 years in IT experience it possible to get a job at all. Please show me different. Thanks.
QA as whole is semi new because a lot of it used to be done overseas for cheaper prices and it’s not as glorified as software development. That’s why you’ll only see a handful of UA-cam channels on QA and a million on software development. In saying that, it has become more popular and more people are starting to get into it making getting jobs in it slightly more challenging now because jobs have more candidates to choose from and can also raise their requirements because of that. What location are you currently in and are you looking for remote or in person. You also mentioned other IT experience previously, what focus was that in?
@@thetestlead Hi, I reached out to you via your website. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
Hi I am searching QA job but I don’t get it😢
Hey, how long have you been searching for and do you have any experience?
Im 42 and looking for a career change i was a pastry chef for 23 years have no clue about anything in computing. Im scared but idk if i can do this. Not sure if i am too old to start? i need help a guide in what to do next and which bootcamp should I attend? Would love some guidance 🙏 thank you for this video
Hey, definitely do research before investing any money. Age shouldn’t stop you, companies legally can’t ask your age while interviewing you, and some companies may actually like that you are “older” because you are more likely to stay vs someone who is “younger” and more likely to just be job hopping. You can send me an email and we can talk more about it thetestinglead@gmail.com
I took a bootcamp a year ago and sadly got discouraged and I gave up looking for a job in QA after two months. The bootcamp I took sold me on big dreams and promises but in the end felt like they railroaded me by continually saying I wasn't doing enough and hung me out to dry. I'm wanting to get back into a tech career now. I would recommend going with the cheapest option something I wish I would have done.
Just finish my bootcamp i want to applty for a job,do you think the opportunities are still avaible as we havea large number of competitors and it's tough to stand out from others , especiallyi with his financial crisis? Thanks for great job sir
Hey, which Bootcamp did you go to? You should apply right away, waiting won’t be really beneficial. You can start applying just get an idea of what companies are currently looking for and work on that skillset in the background so you can become more marketable.
What about work/life balance? I’m seeing this role can be subject to "crunch". I’m 55, I don’t want to work 18 hours a day at the end of every sprint. Please comment.
Hey, good point. This will definitely depend on the company you work for. I’ve definitely had a some long days in my career, but I’ve also worked for companies where they usually stick to regular working hours. During the interview process you can usually get an idea of the work/life balance and some will even tell you straight up “you may have some long days when there is a tight deadline” or “ we focus on employee mental health and have a hard stop at this time every day”.
Hi, I would like to sign up for the QA Manual course. Are you running any promotions?
Hey, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately we don’t offer promotions with any of our products, but we are trying to look for ways to integrate with companies so we can set up payment plans for those who need it.
I start bootcamp next week. Im excited for the upcoming journey and the new skills i will be learning to be a QA manual tester. I appreciate this video. It was very helpful.
Hey I’m glad to hear! What bootcamp are you doing and for manual or automation
@@thetestlead I'm going to be taking a QA manual course starting this week at a tech bootcamp. It's called Careerist .
I’m familiar with them, they have sponsored my videos here on UA-cam in the past. Let me know it goes and keep me posted on your journey!

Before invested your money into anything(even stuff of mine) always do your research. I’m not familiar with the 1 you mentioned but be careful for things making crazy promises or things that seem to good to be true.
